Al Sada Highlights QEWC Role in Supporting Development Efforts

Doha, November 10 (QNA) – HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, The Chairman of Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC), Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada said that QEWC plays an important and vital role in supporting economic development efforts and the overall boom in the State of Qatar, thanks to the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

This came today in his speech during the inauguration and commissioning ceremony of Ras Abu Fontas (RAF) A2 plant and laying the foundation stone for Ras Abu Fontas (RAF) A3 project in Al Wakrah, among the projects being implemented by QEWC in cooperation and coordination with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation KAHRAMAA, to keep up with the growing demand for water.

HE Dr. Al Sada said that the company has succeeded in meeting the growing demand for electricity and water supply with high efficiency.

The Completion of RAF A2 and laying the foundation stone of RAF A3 confirm the company’s keenness on realizing water security in Qatar and keeping up with the march of comprehensive development, he added.

RAF A2 and RAF A3 will contribute 72 million gallons of water to KAHRAMAA water supply network, HE the Minister said adding that the company has plans for increasing the water and electricity productivity via Umm Al Houl plant, which will be completed during the second quarter of 2018. Umm Al Houl is one of biggest plants with a daily production capacity of 2400 Megawatts of electricity and 130 million gallons of drinking water.

HE the Minister affirmed that Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QWEC) which has become one of the largest companies in the region in this sector, continues to invest heavily in the power generation and water desalination locally, regionally and globally, and works to diversify sources of income through continuing its plans for further grow, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
