RAF ‘B’ Commissioned in the year 1995 the plant was acquired by QEWC in the year 1999 from the Government of the State of Qatar. RAF B the co generation combined cycle plant is located in the southern part of the country, 25 km from the city of Doha. The total capacity of the plant is 609 MW of Electricity and 33 MILD of Potable Water. It is operated under a PWPA under which the production is sold to the government for 20 years.
RAF 'B1'
Commissioned in the year 2002 by QEWC, RAF'B1' is the open cycle power plant lying adjacent to RAF 'B'. It stands as an extension to the existing RAF B Facility. The total capacity of the plant is 376 MW It operates under a PPA under which the production is sold to the government for 20 years.
RAF ‘A’
The primary co generation combined cycle plant built in Qatar at different phases falling between 1970 and 1993 stands adjacent to RAF '8'. The entire plant had been built under the supervision of the then Ministry of Electricity and Water, later transferred to Qatar General Electricity &Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), was acquired by QEWC in the year 2003. The total capacity of the plant stands at 626 MW Electricity and 70 MILD of Potable Water. h operates under a PWPA under which the production is sold to the government for 12 years.
Satellite Stations
Forming part of RAF 'A', the satellite stations consist of AI Wajbah, Al Saliayah and Doha South Super located on the outskirts of Doha, generating only power. These plants were built in the year 1980. The capacity of the plants is 301, 134 and 67 MW respectively. The stations were built to meet the growing peak demand of the system. These stations operate under a PWPA under which the production is sold to the government for 12 years
DUKHAN DESALINATION PLANT
Commissioned in the year 1997, the plant was acquired by QEWC in the year 2003 from Qatar Petroleum (QP). Dukhan Water Desalination is an independent water desalination plant located in the Eastern part of the country, 70 km away from the capital city of Doha. The total capacity of the plant is 2 MILD of Potable Water. The plant is operated under a WPA under which the production is sold to the government for 25 years.
RAS LAFFAN POWER COMPANY QEWC is actively associated in Ras Laffan Power Company Limited, owner of Ras Laffan A Project, with a share of 25%. The plant Is located at the Ras Lafan Industrial City. The total capacity of the plant Is 750 MW of Electricity and 40 MIGD of Potable Water. QEWC is also sharing in the AES Ras Laffan Operating Company which looks after the day to day operation of the plant with a 30% share. The facility started its operation in the year 2003. The plant is operated under a PWPA under which the production is sold to the government for 25 years.
Q POWER (RAS LAFFAN B)
In September 2004, QEWC along with International Power Plc and Chubu Electric Power Company successfully won the Ras Laffan B Project, the country's next power and water producing facility to be built in the Industrial City of Ras Laffan. A new joint venture company has been incorporated in the name of Q Power Q.S.C. where QEWC shares 55%, Intenational Power PIc shares 40% and Chubu Electric Power Company shares 5%. The total project cost is estimated at US $ 900 million which would be funded by debt/ equity of 80:20.
This project would deliver an extra capacity of 1025 MW of electricity and 60 MIGD of Potable Water to the country in different phases and would be completed by the middle of 2008. This single event enhanced QEWC’s capacity and potential as the region's leading power and water producer. This stands as a prestigious landmark in the history of the Company. By this QEWC would be maintaining the Company's position of pre-eminence in the sector in which it operates.
